As part of the North Canterbury Palaeome Project a small part of the iconic Quaternary fossil site at Pyramid Valley was excavated in January-February 2008 to sample the sediments, ground-truth non-intrusive geophysical techniques of investigating subsurface features, retrieve undistorted sediment cores, and test new methods of excavation.
